MYVOTE

  • Prompted by the significant abstention of nearly 80 million eligible voters (1/3) in the 2020 presidential election, I investigated the reasons behind this non-participation. I focused on understanding voting barriers and exploring design's potential to address these issues, aiming to contribute to a more inclusive democracy through targeted interventions.

  • Extensive research revealed three primary factors fueling the voter participation issue: a lack of accessible knowledge, inconvenience, and insufficient engagement. These findings serve as a foundation for my understanding of the challenges within the electoral process and provide valuable insights for potential interventions aimed at fostering increased voter participation.

    85% of Americans own smartphones.

Pew Research's April 2021 report revealed an 85% ownership of smartphones among Americans, prompting the recognition of an opportunity. This surge inspired a mobile-centric approach to address civic engagement challenges and enhance voter education, leveraging the widespread use of smartphones for innovative solutions.

    Solution
Develop a comprehensive mobile app designed to empower potential voters with all the necessary information for election preparedness. This user-friendly app simplifies voter registration, enables communication with representatives, facilitates research on ballot measures, and provides a convenient platform for casting votes. The goal is to enhance the overall electoral experience, making civic engagement more accessible and efficient through a single, integrated platform.

    Biggest Hurdle
In light of increasing skepticism towards technology and government, the need to foster trust became paramount. This necessitated a commitment to neutral visuals, ensuring that every design remained free of bias. The success of the app and overarching concept hinged on users perceiving it as impartial, as any perceived influence could potentially deter usage.
